  1. tom-jjbtI do not think Los Angeles will have a full blown system like this until Metro addresses the problem of how to get around when you step off the train. Unlike New York, Chicago, Philadelphia & Washington DC, Los Angeles does not have a concentrated urban center. Everything is spread out and without well designed local transit options, along the train route, riders will be left to walk long distances. However, I am sure the problems can be resolved (especially if attractive businesses start springing up around the train stops).   10 years ago

This would seem to bring the most benefit if the city rezoned with the mass transit lines in mind, possibly to concentrate office space, retail and high-density housing around the lines (though I'm sure there are studies that can shed light onto the root causes of traffic). Shudder at the thought of the rezoning battles, which is all the more reason to start talking about it now.   10 years ago
